Hello everybody,
I though it might be nice to include some basic guidelines for anybody who might pass by this forum looking for a wee bit of direction... I wrote this piece some time ago, but hope it's of some help.
The following I have to offer is based on my own experiences and I'm quick to point out that it's only one way of doing things, there are many other...
A typical situation to find yourself in is, having had various psychic experiences, you wonder where to go from here. You may have had a dream that subsequently came true, or perhaps heard a spirit voice whisper in your ear, or you may have felt a presence, or even had a glimpse of a spirit. You may not even be aware of any such activity, but just feel drawn to the 'psychic arts.'
I would like to warn everybody about dealing with absolutes. What I mean by this is, I was once reading a development book by a famous medium (I won't mention his name) in his book he had a questionnaire entitled "Are you a potential medium?" the idea was to answer the questions and refer to the score chart afterwards. Well I filled it out and checked my score (1/10) and it more or less said don't waste your time pursuing this path, your gifts lie elsewhere. I'm pleased to say that I didn't listen to that advice, which was some five years ago, although I must say I nearly gave up on my dream, thinking that this house-hold name surely must be right. I don't want to disrespect anybody, but I can't help wondering how many people were beaten before they even started.
I would conclude that anybody who feels genuinely drawn to doing this beautiful, work CAN become proficient at it...
I'm sorry that I'm going to go of on various tangents, but I feel compelled to share some of my own experiences in the hope it might help other potential mediums...
First of all, I'm not going to go into too much depth about the mechanics of mediumship at this stage.
Roughly speaking though, the gifts of the spirit are the clairwotsits, as I call them.
Clairvoyance - clear seeing
Cairaudience - clear hearing
Clairsentience - clear sensing
Inspirational speaking and writing
psychometry - which broadly translates from Greek as ' a measure of the soul of thing's
There are many others which I don't intend to cover here.
You may be lucky and have all of the clairwotsits, or you may not. I would however, like to put it into perspective for you. I know a fine medium who neither sees or hears spirit, but let me tell you there's nothing lacking about his readings...
I would like to say that the best mediums are always fine psychics too. It's often best to develop your psychic side first before attempting attunement to the spirit world. It often takes a while for your energy to build and for you to be able to carry enough light for a guide to draw near. It would be totally counter productive for a high guide to come in to your aura before you are able to carry his/her light. All this would achieve is to burn out your psychic cords and your back to square one, so PATIENCE is very much the key.
Before I go any further, I would like to say that a good place to start on your journey is a Spiritualist Church. They have opportunities to develop within their ranks. My journey thus far has been largely done outside of this environment. I would encourage everybody to at least give it a try though, as it can give you great structure and guidance from a mentor. A good Teacher can be invaluable, especially in the early stages of development. They can help you ascertain which thoughts are coming from your sub conscious mind, and which are those of a spirit inspirer...
Which brings me nicely to my next point. I would strongly advise you to familiarize yourself with your own inner voice first. During meditation or a quiet moment, recite a poem or prayer in your mind which will allow you to recognize your internal dialogue. Once this is firmly established you can differentiate between that and a spirit inspirer.
MEDITATION.
I know this is often a dirty word, but it can and does unlock your psychic potential, not to mention take you on a journey of self discovery. It's a vast subject in its own right.
I would encourage spending 5 or 10 Min's a day if your new to it, building up to 20 Min's after a time. I like to spend a lot longer than this now, and wonder how I used to survive without it...
A simple exercise to begin with will allow you to find out which one/ones of your clairwotsits are more dominant...
Once in meditation (protected and grounded of course) Go for a stroll along the beach, see the waves come crashing in, and then back out again. As you continue on your journey, feel the sand under your feet, hear the seagulls squawking (or whatever they do LOL) feel the sun beating down on your back. Be as creative as you like with this scenario, taking in all of the smells, sounds and sights along the way. You may find it easier to hear than see, or vice versa, but you should become aware of your dominant attribute...
I hasten to add though, these are skills that will develop over time. When I first started I struggled to visualize anything at all, over time this has changed dramatically!
When your first starting off it's nice to have a tool to help you on your way. There are many to choose from: tarot, numerology, pendulum, runes, psychometry, and many more. For me it was the tarot and numerology, oh and er, psychometry. I would suggest you pick one(s) that you feel drawn to... I would advocate the need for a sympathetic partner (guinea pig) during your early attempts to practice.
Once you have your chosen tool. Lets say for example the tarot. Don't worry that you haven't a scooby of the meanings of any of the cards. (to this day I don't know what any of them mean) they are just a focus to access your intuition/sixth sense. Quieten your mind, it may help to meditate beforehand. The golden rule(s) to remember are, don't think, sense and feel, and don't try, and above all have fun with it.
I find it helps to visualize your aura expanding out to-wards your sitter, engulfing them in the process... It's worth pointing out that the vibrations that your working with are extremely subtle. You may hear a name briefly pop into your mind, an emotion surface that you didn't formerly have, you may see a picture flash across the window of your mind, or you may just feel compelled to say something to that person... Be prepared to be wrong, and don't worry if you feel like your making it all up, remember, practice makes perfect. I can tell you this though, the people I have coached have all been amazed at what they could do. Remember, we are all inherently psychic.
PSYCHOMETRY.
Another method of development is where you tune into a photograph or object belonging to someone else, writing down or describing out loud any impressions you receive whilst holding it...
A word of caution though, if you are using an object, try and make sure it's always just had one owner, ie. a watch. If your holding something that's belonged to more than one person, then you will invariably pick up information from its previous keeper and your impressions may never be validated for this reason.
Which ever method you try, always remember that these are just tools to help you. It's you that's psychic. Don't become dependant on them. It's like stabilizers on a bike, one day you realize that you don't need them any more.
I've had a few further thoughts...
Whenever you do this work, you need to be relaxed, centred and positive. If your minds full of internal chat, then you'll miss all of the subtle information that's trying to reach you... meditation will help with discipline of the mind... Again, when I first started out I couldn't meditate or focus to save my life, however, with sustained, deliberate effort, it all clicks into place, and may I say it's well worth the effort. It's like anything in this life: you get out of something exactly what you put into it. (I firmly believe that my astral adventures, insight and calm disposition are all as a direct result of a daily meditation programme)
Now my mind is so disciplined, I could meditate literally anywhere, and I mean anywhere.
I would like to further add that once you become a medium, you become a Teacher, almost by default, whether you like it or not. So you have to educate yourself as much as possible, know your subject and related ones...
Also, the mediumship is only one aspect of the work. You will be expected to develop your philosophy skills as well, unless your content to do one on one sessions, but be warned, spirit often have their own ideas and agenda about this, and you could find yourself thrown into the public eye. LOL
The philosophy is of equal, if not greater importance than the clairvoyance etc. The ability to inspire, educate and empower people is of paramount importance!
Your development will have many peaks and troughs. In the same way a gardener prunes his roses in order to promote growth for the following season, so it is with your development.
There's so much more that can be covered about development. I've barely scratched the surface here. .. If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'll do my best to answer.
All my love,
Danny
